Sunday at Solenad

No, there is no valid reason as to why my friends and I went to Solenad in Nuvali yesterday. Actually, it was a belated celebration of J1’s birthday (which was in January) and an advanced celebration of J2’s birthday (which isn’t until the 28th). And because one of J2’s goals for this year is to go to each and every Starbucks branch featured in the Starbucks 2011 Planner. Which are all somewhat strange reasons now that I think about it because we could’ve gone to nearer restaurants to celebrate birthdays and what does it matter whether J2 gets to see Starbucks Solenad since she’s sure to not see Starbucks Ayala Center Cebu anyway. But really, who needs a reason to spend the day with friends? ๐Ÿ˜‰

We met at McDonald’s in ATC at 12:00 noon and started for Sta. Rosa around 12:30. We arrived at Nuvali around 1:15PM and the first thing we did was go to Pig Out. We looked at the menu first before ordering, and were convinced that the chicharon rice was reason enough to pick that restaurant, so inside we went. And we ordered the following:

Pig Out Order: (Clockwise) Korean Style Tapa, Fried Dory Fish, Ensalada, Chicaron Rice

We actually ordered the Marlin first, but it wasn’t available. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Oh well. At least those that we ordered were delicious ๐Ÿ™‚ though the serving of the rice could’ve been bigger.

After lunch, we decided to be the ones to do the feeding–to the koi fish in the manmade lake. Wait, let me say that again: We decided to be the ones to do the feeding–to the scary psychotic koi fish in the manmade lake.

Psychkoi Fish

I think fish feeding is supposed to be a fun and relaxing activity, but with this amount of fish, and with their eagerness to be fed, we little girls got scared. There was too many of them, and their mouths were opening and closing and they were staring and jumping and splashing water at us and it was just really creepy. It was like Alfred Hitchcock’s Theย Birds, except for fish.

So we tried to scatter the fish food as much as we could so that the fish wouldn’t all be in one place. We succeeded sort of, but we still couldn’t throw very much very far.

Psychkoi Fish and Fountain

Anyway, after we emptied the bag of fish food that we bought for P15 each, we finally went to Starbucks. J2 treated us to drinks and cheesecake because we were technically celebrating her birthday. Thanks J2! Happy Birthday! ๐Ÿ˜€

Grande Green Tea, White Chocolate Mocha, Dark Mocha, and Caramel Affogato Frappuccinos, Mango Madness and Chocolate Decadence Cheesecake

And of course, we took a photo in front of the Starbucks, as proof that J2 has yet another branch to check off her Starbucks 2011 Planner Branch List.

On our way to the parking lot, we saw a small bazaar and decided to check it out. It was sort of a mistake because we ended up buying tons of stuff. ๐Ÿ˜ Okay, it’s not really a mistake because of course, we like what we bought. But I call it a mistake because, well, spending money on things you don’t really needย is kind of a mistake. And who really needs hats like these?

Okay, I think maybe I’ve thought of a valid reason why we went to Solenad now: Because once in a while, it’s okay not to meet at good ol’ ATC (though we still love it and still think that it’s the best mall in the world). Right?

Fate Decides

‘Wag n’yo nang pansinin ‘yung title. Mababaw lang ‘to. Tungkol ito sa Starbucks 2011 Planner. Ganun kababaw.

I finally finished collecting stickers and was able to redeem my Starbucks 2011 Planner today. Hooray! It’s an accomplishment, right? A very small and insignificant accomplishment, but it’s something that I started and finished, which is more than I can say for a lot of other things that I’ve started. Anyway, in November, I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to get the Starbucks planner for 2011. I thought that maybe I wanted a change since my planner for 2010 is the Starbucks 2010 planner. And there are other planners that are really cool like, the Witty Will Save the World planner, which is hilarious, but too small for my somewhat strange way of writing (I like big notebooks will lots of space). And also the This Journal Will Actually Change Someone’s Life, which has pretty pretty brown pages, bits and pieces of trivia (which I’m crazy about) and vintage-style pictures. But it’s got pages for “budget plan” or “ways to improve yourself”, and I’m just not that responsible to have anything to write in pages like those. Plus, I love coffee, and after getting one or two stickers on that Starbucks booklet, as Leonard from The Big Bang Theory said in The Staircase Implementation (S3E22), “after youโ€™ve passed the first three barriers you kind of want to take it all the way.”

Hence, I decided to get the Starbucks 2011 Planner. So the next question was, which of the 3 designs should I get? Brown, maroon, or silver? I kind of wanted the brown one, except that I also really like the maroon one, and the silver isn’t too bad either. So, in accordance with my policy on things that I can’t decide on, I left it to Fate.

I got the last sticker needed at SM Southmall today and asked if they had the brown planner available. Wouldn’t you know it, they were out of the brown ones and had only maroon and silver. Since my friend J already has the silver one, and I don’t want us to have the same kind, there was only once choice left — maroon.

OK, I’m aware that I could’ve just gone to another branch of Starbucks, or waited a few more days to redeem my planner, but like I said, I leave things to Fate sometimes (even things as petty as this), and I think Fate decided for me to have this maroon velvet planner. So I will love it just like how I love all my planners.

P.S. Alam ko, sobrang babaw grabe over sa babaw ang post na ito. But you know, I’m a little bit in love with notebooks and ballpens and planners and paper and coffee and all that stuff, plus my life is really boring so this is actually pretty relevant. ๐Ÿ™‚

About Me

My Secret

Here’s a secret: I want to be a ventriloquist.

Seriously. I never thought that it was dorky or creepy or whatever other strange adjectives they associate with ventriloquism. I’ve always wanted to learn how to throw my voice, and I sometimes do weird voices that I imagine could be voices for some of my stuffed toys. Right. Maybe I’m crazy. But I think it’s a cool talent to have.

Unfortunately, it’s not very easy. Speaking without moving your lips? It’s harder than it looks. I know because I’ve tried. Several times. And then there’s that thing about making your voice sound like it’s not coming from you. How do people do that? I mean, you’ve only got one mouth, how do ventriloquists make it seem like somebody else is talking? Anyway, I kind of had a “ventriloquist” moment last night. Not because I was holding a doll and people believed it was talking, but because I was able to change my tone of voice so well, that it seemed like another person was in the room.

I was actually just telling a story. About Starbucks. OK, I was telling the story I wrote in the previous blog entry. Imagine that story being said aloud, and that’s what my story was like.ย And I changed my voice for the part where the barista goes “Tall Dark Cherry Mocha for Ida!”

And I got so surprised by the tone of my own voice, because I was able to mimic the voice of the actual barista who said it. So I felt as though I just heard it in my head instead of aloud.

Well, you can choose to believe me, or you can think that I’m just crazy (smart money is on the latter). But anyway, I wonder now if my dreams of ventriloquism is really that far from happening. Hehehe. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Tall, Dark, and Cherry Mocha

White cups are gone and the red cups are here! Or so the Starbucks ad says…

Today is the start of the Starbucks Christmas season sticker-collecting mania. Collect all 16 (Yes, there’s only 16 to collect this year, not 24 like last year) stickers and you get a Starbucks planner in return.

So my officemates and I were so excited, we went to the nearest Starbucks branch right after lunch. And me, being all excited about their new Christmas flavoured drink, I ordered a Tall one. So when the barista announced that it was ready, it went a little something like this:

Tall Dark Cherry Mocha for Ida!

My actual Tall, Dark, and Cherry Mocha
My actual Tall, Dark, and Cherry Mocha

In the split-second between the words “tall” and “dark” I imagined that “handsome” would come next and that a tall, dark, and handsome guy would suddenly materialize in front of me. Now that’s better than any old planner. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hehehe.

Unfortunately, I am not that lucky. But I do, however have a story about being very lucky in Starbucks, involving my friend/officemate who went there with us this afternoon.

See, the barista gave her the wrong change. No, she wasn’t short-changed, but the opposite of that. And it wasn’t just a peso or not even 20 pesos more than what her change should’ve been. She got over 500 pesos extra. But she didn’t realize it until we got back to the office. Anyway, she went downstairs again, across the street and into the Starbucks branch to return the extra 500 pesos she got. And guess what?

The manager apologized and said that if she came back to their branch tomorrow, she’d give her a Starbucks Planner! For Free!

It’s an early Christmas for her I’d say! ๐Ÿ˜€
