About Me, Life, People, Travel

It’s not over yet!

Didn’t I just welcome September four blog entries ago? And, didn’t I just welcome 2014 yesterday?! Why does time move so fast? I didn’t notice November go by at all. I don’t know why I always feel this way when it’s almost the end of the year. I think it’s because this is the time I realize that I’ve run out of time and haven’t accomplished anything. Again. Well, at least 2014 was way better than 2013. First three quarters. Those were a rough nine months. But the latter part of 2013 were some of the best months of my life, I have to say. Oh. Is this the blog entry where I recap the past year? I didn’t mean for it to be, but I guess now that I’m typing this, that’s what it’s going to be.

So. What has happened this year? I went to a lot of places. I really did.

I’m going to start with February because that was the time I went on not one, but two (!) beach trips with my sister. And we went to Boracay and Bohol! A mere two months after having spent time in Palawan for my brother’s wedding! And that was after I went to Europe with my parents (and my sister and brother-in-law, too)! Really, I can’t complain about my life. #ReallyBlessed šŸ˜€

Then in the summer, my friends and I went to Borawan in Quezon, and because we went on the day before the holiday, it felt like we had the island all to ourselves. And we ate seafood, played card games, and talked, nay, laughed about our feelings. It was great.

I also went to Phuket, Thailand with my parents. And we stayed at a different hotel each night and it was a lot of fun. Despite the really really sick-inducing boat ride. Everyone: Don’t go to Phuket in June. It’s just… Not good for your stomach. You know where you should go in June, though? Baguio. Two weeks after Phuket, I was in Baguio with my friend M and it was Baguio like I’d never seen before. Not too many people and the cold weather that’s not too cold but not warm like you’re not in Baguio either. And sure it rained in the afternoons, but that’s the best atmosphere for reading a good book while drinking strawberry hot chocolate!

In August I went with my pre-school barkada to Malaysia. To Legoland and Hello Kitty Town (and Malacca and Kuala Lumpur)! It was actually our first out-of-town trip together and I’m glad it was a success. Because we did it as a joint celebration for our 30th birthdays (We all turned 30 this year!) so it was imperative that it be successful. Otherwise, we’d all be stuck with horrible memories of our 30th birthday celebrations. But we all had fun and now we’ll always have something great to look back at when we think about the time we turned 30. šŸ™‚

And just last month, I was in Cebu with M2. And not just anywhere in Cebu, but in Plantation Bay! One of the best resorts, if notĀ theĀ best resort in Cebu! It was a really great experience. I was able to go parasailing for the first time, was able to eat CnT lechon and try Zubuchon, too!

Oh, and did I mention that this isĀ also the year when my cousin B celebrated her 18th birthday, my parents had their 35th wedding anniversary, my brother & sister-in-law celebrated their 1st, at one point I got the top rank in our office,Ā I won a free movie ticket just from sending stickers in WeChat, I was named godmother to one of my closest friends’ first child, I went on three semi-spontaneous trips to Tagaytay with different friends, X and I watched Wicked at CCP,Ā my former officematesĀ and I tried out different restaurants on Aguirre Ave. in BF Paranaque and Kapitolyo in Pasig,Ā andĀ The Walking Dead started its best season yet?

Looking back at my 2014, I feel really really happy. I mean, sure, there were still sad events that happened, but there are some people who go through entire years without taking one out-of-town trip or seeing old friends or spending time with family members who live abroad, and I got to do all of those!

It’s great to be alive! What a wonderful 2014 it’s been. And it’s not over yet! šŸ˜€

Books, Life, Movies

Happy 2013!

Oh, the first post of the year is always the hardest.

So I will keep this short.

My sister and I have a new blog! šŸ˜€ It’s a joint blog in fact. We’ve decided to both do a 365-day project for 2013. Because we’re bored like that. Anyway, it’s here:

Zara & Ida’s 365 day project

In other news, I thoughtĀ Sosy Problems would be my last movie of 2012 but it turned out thatĀ The Hobbit was showing in the IMAX theatre so that became my last movie of 2012. Obviously, they’re two incredibly different films and I imagine that there aren’t too many people who would see both movies in one weekend. But I am mentioning it because I liked them both. And for the same reason. I mean, that they were exactly what I expected them to be.Ā Sosy Problems was ridiculous fluff that nobody should take seriously (and I really hope nobody does), I mean, it was bordering onĀ Sex and the City 2 territory (minus the adult themes). AndĀ The Hobbit was a movie with fantastic vistas, battle scenes, special effects and musical scoring. I mean, the scene where the dwarves sang took my breath away.

And there you go,Ā Sosy Problems andĀ The HobbitĀ mentioned in the same paragraph (with a cameo ofĀ Sex and the City 2). I wonder if some people will find that offensive.

In more unrelated news, I go back to work tomorrow and things go back to normal, presumably. Not that I can define what “normal” is unless someone tells me that it’s just a synonym of “boring”.

And in even more unrelated news, the plastic container of peanut brittle that’s sitting behind me in my “new” computer chair just fell to the floor. I better pick it up.

Oh! Also, it’s a new year, which means I have to start a new reading list. So for 2012, I was able to read… 13 books. I guess it’s not that many but like I said, it’s better than the zero books I was able to read in 2011 and so many years before that. Anyway, for 2013, I’m going to be a bit more realistic with my reading goal and say that I hope to read… 20 books.

Twenty. It shouldn’t be too hard, especially when I finally catch up with watching all the episodes ofĀ Castle. It’s really my addiction to TV shows that keep me from reading. But I think that’s a common thing. Anyway, I’m actually in the middle of readingĀ Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Yup, you guessed it right. I’m trying to read the entireĀ Harry PotterĀ series again. Just because the last time I actually read them (at least, the first 4 books) was in high school and though I’ve seen the movies several times, I would like to review all the details. As forĀ A Clash of Kings, it got a bit too heavy and difficult for me to read, which is why I took a break from it and started readingĀ Harry Potter again, but I’m sure I’ll get around to it sometime this year. Perhaps, when season 3 ofĀ Game of Thrones in HBO is out.

It’s December!

Panic stations, everyone!

I don’t know why I always feel this way during the last month of the year. Perhaps it’s because it’s theĀ last month and that makes me feel like I have to finish doing something because this is theĀ last month that I have to do it. I don’t think I have pending projects or anything like that. But I feel like I do.

In other news, I wasn’t able to download my Multiply photos before theĀ last day of November. But when I checked my site, they’re all still there. Perhaps they’re giving latecomers a chance. Or maybe it takes a long time to wipe out accounts anyway and they’ll all still be there until the end of the year.

Also, I was able to watch theĀ last installment of theĀ Twilight series. I kinda liked it. I think it was becauseĀ finally, Bella wasn’t the awkward girl who kept stuttering annoyingly. I mean, I’ve heard people who have that sickness, stuttering, but they don’t sound annoying like Bella did. And because there was a battle scene, which I apparently like even though I am a girl. I think I just don’t like the kind of war with guns but for war with magics and superpowers, I’m there. Though I still maintain that the “vampires” inĀ Twilight are not vampires at all but some other kind of creature because they only thing the have in common with “real” vampires from literature is that they drink blood. Other than that, they don’t sleep during the day, they aren’t killed by sunlight and they have individual superpowers! They’re more of a fit in the X-Men universe than in the vampire literature universe. But I guess that really wasn’t the point of the story. Sige na nga. Edward loves Bella and she loves him, too! It’s the greatest thing one can ever learn. Whatevs.

Yesterday was myĀ last OT day at work. Well, my last rest day OT day anyway. I think I will miss coming to work on Sundays. WHOA! Can’t believe I said that. But really, it’s because I live near my office! I don’t think I’ll be saying that (or volunteering for OT in the first place) otherwise.

I’ll tell you one thing that’s not ending/hasn’t ended, though. The world. Does anyone really believe that December 21 this year is ourĀ last day on this Earth? I don’t think so, though if it really were, I wouldn’t feel too bad about it. I mean, we wereĀ warned in some kind of weird way so perhaps a lot of people have already prepared for it. As for me, I’m just happy to have something to post on this blog. Haha. There I go again, focusing on the mundane.

Also, shameless plug: I have a new blog. Don’t look at me like that. It’s different! It’s on tumblr! It’s a fashion blog! Well, a fashion blog of sorts. So it’s different from all the rest of my blogs. Really. Anyway, it’s here: no dress code

Life, Writing

Last Post for 2010

Gusto ko talagang batiin lahat ng kakilala ko individually kaya lang… Nahihirapan ako mag-text sa phone ko kaya maski mag-reply ng “thanks” ayoko gawin. And… Ayokong mag-post ng generic message as status sa Facebook. Hindi talaga ako fan ng generic messages kasi hindi ba super impersonal? Kaya nga ayoko ng greeting cards ‘eh.

And yet, that’s exactly what I’m doing writing a blog entry like this. Saying a generic message for anyone who reads it, friend ko man or hindi. Does that sentence sound condescending? Ahehe).

OK, that said:
