Can you be happy for 100 days in a row?
That is the question posed by the 100 Happy Days social media experiment. You’re supposed to post a photo that shows why you’re happy, once a day every day for 100 days.
So, can you?
The answer is no. No, you cannot. And anyone who says otherwise is either lying or fooling themselves.
But! Here’s the kicker: It’s okay!
It’s okay that you’re not happy for 100 days straight. Because that’s normal!
This stupid social media experiment is setting an impossible standard that will really only make people feel bad. Worse, it’s under the guise of “optimism”. Sure, it’s good to think about the things that make you happy, but shoving your fake/fleeting/edited moments of happiness down the throats of other people, making it seem like nothing ever goes wrong in your life is just pretentious.
Why can’t it just be #100Days? So you wouldn’t have to lie, embellish, edit, take things out of context or use filters. And it will be about being happy, sad, ecstatic, bored, annoyed, scared and whatever other emotion that a human being can feel. Because all emotions are important and it’s not a bad thing to be sad once in a while. That’s how we learn. That’s how we find out what and how to improve. In fact, I’d be afraid for someone who was happy for 100 days in a row. That means he/she isn’t paying close enough attention. Ignorance is bliss and if you feel happy for 100 days in a row, well… I don’t need to continue that thought.
