Events Day

Posting this in the early morning kasi sigurado na’kong wala na’kong oras mamaya. It’s 6:09AM right now, in case you’re curious.

Events Day today! As in, maraming events ang mangyayari ngayon. Or, maybe konti lang, pero ‘pag iniisip ko parang ang dami talaga.

Happy 23 Takeshi!

It’s Takeshi Yasutoko’s birthday today!! :D Happy Birthday to him!! :D I can’t believe I’ve been following his career since he was 10. But guess what — his career started when he was even younger than that! Hehehe.

If you don’t know who he is, look him up. And be wonderfully surprised by this person whom I’ve been fangirling for for, wow — (here’s another realization) half of my life!

Uuwi na si Kuya

I’m not an only child anymore!

I’m actually technically the youngest of three, but because both my siblings have been abroad for the past 3 years, it’s been a running joke in our household that I’m an only child. It’s great sometimes, but it’s not really a lot of fun when you’re always in the spotlight. Your mistakes are always noticed!

It might be weird to have my brother around after so long, though. See, before he went abroad to work, he’d been living near his university (ADMU — it’s in QC. Yes! In the north! So very far away from our home!) since he graduated from high school, which was… whoa– 10 years ago!

So many realizations today, too! I can’t believe he hasn’t been living in our house for 10 years already! I mean sure, he comes home during the weekend, but he meets with his friends anyway so most of his time is still spent, er, not at home. We’re not actually that close, so I don’t really notice it, but yeah, it’ll probably be weird at least for the first couple of weeks. But hey, like I said, at least I’m not an only child anymore! :D

We Won! We Won! Part IV?

Hopefully.

Party in our office today, and it involves the final round of the singing contest I was telling you about in the previous entry, and also the other contests (i.e. dating game and quiz bee). My teammates all made it to the final round (of course!), but are we going to win?

I’m keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Of course, I’d love if we won all 3 events (though the dating game is just fun, it’s not for prestige of any kind). But even if we don’t, we’ve had so much fun just preparing for them, I think in some ways we’ve already won anyway. :) (Haha, way to keep positive!) But still, I hope we win everything and become overall champions! Not that there’s an award like that. Mayabang lang ako. Hehe.

Work Work Work

Lastly, and this is the part that I least like, ANG DAMING TRABAHO!!!!!

What’s To Come

Wow. It’s the first time in 2 weeks that I’m sitting at my desk at home and typing this on my own computer. There had been a lot of work lately (in fact there’s  lot of work still), and get-togethers with friends and beach outings with the family that it’s only now that I found the time to sit and write. And even now I’m not writing anything all that important (not that I ever do). I have so many drafts I still haven’t published because they’re all unfinished–thoughts have been swimming in my head and there are just too many that I can’t complete them and write a decent blog entry. So instead, I’m writing this — what’s to come for the month of March, or the rest of 2009.

Is it really March already?? But I’m still in New Year mode! How can summer already start, when I still haven’t put away my Christmas presents? (Oh no wait, that doesn’t count. I never put away my Christmas gifts. Hahaha!) And worse, how can it be March 2009 when I still haven’t taken the computer dust covers out of their plastic bags and actually put them on my computer?!?!

Gosh, a year on Earth is short, isn’t it? In my mind, my computer is still new, but the calendar says that it’s almost a year old. And that means that this blog is also almost a year old. No wonder a lot of people have come up with metaphors on how time passes so quickly. I’m sure you’ve heard/read most of ‘em, so I won’t repeat them here. But I have however, just brought up something that’s to come this month — my blog/computer’s 1st year anniversary. Woohoo! I know, I know, a computer turning a year old is nothing special to most people (it might in fact be the opposite of special, because that means that it’s already an old model), but this being my first major purchase ever, I kind of feel sentimental about it. Sentimental in the sense that there is something I miss — my savings! How on Earth was I able to save enough money last year to buy myself a computer? I’m completely broke now. I think I’m even in debt. I don’t want to check because I’m afraid of the results. But, I don’t know. Hopefully something will come (hint hint — if you have lots of money, care to send me some? ;) hehehe).

Anyway, whatever. Why did I choose my computer’s anniversary as the first “event” to happen this month? There are actually lots that are coming, such as:

1. Family Outings and More Family Outings – My mom is a nazi when it comes to family outings. Seriously. She’d plan tours for the family weeks (months, sometimes years) in advance and force you to free your schedule. The good thing about it is that when the day that we’ll be traveling comes, everything’s already fixed–transport, food, money matters, etc. The bad thing is that we all have to follow her military-ish schedule. So, I know I’m a bit too old to still be going on trips with my parents but whatever. When you like to travel, you travel with anyone. And my parents aren’t bad company anyway. This year, we’ve already gone to Dumaguete and Punta Fuego. The next places to visit (assuming they all push through) are the Hundred Islands and Boracay. So I’m all excited about the Pangasinan trip because I’ve never been there before, but not so much for the Boracay trip since I’ve been there twice before, and most of my friends tell me that it just gets worse every year. Right. I guess we’ll just have to see.

2. Get-togethers with Friends - It’s almost just like Christmas. Friends suddenly get in touch. Although this time it’s to ask you if you want to go traveling with them. Not that I mind. I love it. It’s just a bit hard to find a schedule that works for everyone, and a budget that everyone agrees with, or even a place that everybody would like. But just in case you were curious, I’m going with my friends this summer to the following places: the beach, the spa, and the Mernel’s Cake Store in Los Baños. So I can miss the beach and the spa trip (and just go somewhere else with my friends), but the Mernel’s Cake Store is non-negotiable. One way or another, I will get to eat those cakes. I should put a sign on the back of my shirt that says–WILL TRAVEL LONG DISTANCES FOR CAKE. (Just in case you didn’t get it, that’s a spoof of the “Will Work for Food” sign thingie.) Hehehe.

3. Global Financial Crisis – What?!?! There’s something like this on my fluffy shallow superficial blog?!?! Nah, this is just my justification as to why I don’t have any money these days. ‘Eh kung buong mundo nga naghihirap ‘eh, ako pa kaya!??! I wonder how I will be able to afford all the gimiks I have planned. I mean, it’s not just the transportation and accommodation fees that you have to think about, but the food you’ll eat and the clothes you’ll wear, and the sunblock you’ll use, and the shampoo for your hair (napansin n’yo bang nag-rhyme ako? ;) hehe ), and the flip flops for your feet, and the people you’ll greet — what?! Basta mag-rhyme lang! Hehe. No, seriously. I am in a sort of very unstable situation with regard to money matters (but it’s not my fault. the whole world is like this at the moment. — hehe defensive talaga!), and it’s not just the summer trips I’m worried about but the day-to-day stuff like lunch, and bus fares… How will it all work out? I think I’m gonna have to just wait and see.

And, what else? What else is going to happen this month?

Oh, that’s right! Watchmen opens on Friday, Eraserheads – The Final Set is on Saturday, and I’m watching the musical I Love You, Because with my friends on Sunday!

There really are lots and lots that’s going to happen this month, aren’t there? I wonder how many blog entries I’ll write this time.

It’s Time to March!

February’s over!! :( Aww… I’m so sad to see my favorite month go. I have to wait another year to see it again. *sigh* Although it was fun while it lasted. And the most fun was when there was so much work during the last week that I wasn’t able to sleep well for 5 days straight! Oh joy!! (Can you sense the sarcasm here? :P )

Anyway, it’s March now. :) And I just came from the beach! Woohoo!! It was already my second summer outing–the first was with my parents in Antulang in Dumaguete. And this time, we went to Punta Fuego in Nasugbu, Batangas. Other than my parents, my aunts and uncle and cousin were also with us, which is actually kind of traditional, now that I think about it, because when I was a kid we always used to go to Nasugbu (and back then the place was called White Sands, that place is gone now) every summer with my mom’s side of the family. I guess we still do that now, although we’ve definitely decreased in numbers. Hm. Aren’t families supposed to get bigger? How come mine gets smaller each year? :-? And I just found out yesterday that one of my cousins might be going to Canada soon. If that happens, then nearly everyone in my mom’s side of the family will only have one of all their children still be here, in the Philippines, with them. The rest would be spread out in the world — Canada, USA, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and New Zealand. Wow! I didn’t even realize that none of them are in the same country! Haha!

As for me, I’m still here. In the same house I’ve lived in since I was born. With the same job I’ve had since about a year after I graduated from college. With the same friends I’ve had since pre-school. And my height is the same, and my hair length is the same… Can you tell I don’t like change? Hehehe. No, seriously. I know it’s bad because change is inevitable, but gosh, it’s hard to deal with ‘eh?

Oh yeah, that’s the reason I’m apprehensive about March. Hahah!  Because it’s really the unofficial start of summer time and I’m still about 20 pounds overweight. What, you didn’t know I was this shallow?!

P.S. And because it’s March now, my layout is back to its original.

Weekend Happy

So I got a whopping 128 over 200 score on my Japanese midterm, you know, the one I didn’t study for? So yeah, I’m a bit sad with that. I barely passed (passing score is 120), but I guess it’s better than failing the test, although I know nobody’s supposed to be happy with “just a passing grade”. Whatever. The reason I was happy this weekend is because I got me a new camera! :D

My brother’s home from Japan (just for a few days though), and he brought with him the camera I asked him to buy — Olympus 850 SW. It’s waterproof, shock proof, freeze proof, and you know, all that. The best part? It’s BLUE! Hehe, leave it to me to only care about the color, rather than the actual camera features. Hey, I’m not that gadget-y. Anyway, I haven’t explored its features all that much yet (largely due to the fact that the manual it came with is in Japanese), but it’s all good so far. :) I already took some pictures last yesterday at my Dad’s birthday party / brother’s welcome home party / my belated birthday party. Leave it to my mom to cram all 3 occasions into just one celebration.

Anyway, it was lots of fun. My relatives were at my house and I got to invite some friends, too. Although only 2 of them came, but that’s okay. They’re the best ones from all those I invited. Haha! What I mean is, they’re my two best friends. :)

After all my relatives left, some of my brother’s friends actually came to our house bringing lots of alcohol with them. My friends and I took this as our signal to retreat to my room. And because I still had the soju my friend and I bought from the Open House of my Japanese language school 2 weeks ago (and we bought it mainly “so we could be part of the K-drama world”, my friend said), we decided to drink some alcohol as well. Of course, it was just one small bottle that the three of us shared, and we mixed it with calamansi juice so we hardly tasted it, but at least I know soju’s effect now — it makes you sleepy! Hehehe, we were out like a light half an hour after we finished drinking. :P Or maybe that was because it was already 2AM. Anyway…

Water, Soju and Calamansi Juice

Water, Soju and Calamansi Juice

I posted more pictures of the event in my Multiply site: 3rd Weekend of October

Don’t expect anything looking professional or whatever, though. I’m not a photographer. And I mostly just bought the camera because… Well, because darn it, it just sucks not to have your own camera while everyone around you is clicking away at theirs. In other words, inggitera ako. ;) Hehehe.

Anyway, other than the camera, my brother also brought home the bento box set that I asked him to buy. It’s so pretty!!

(Click on image to see original.)

Pretty pretty bento box with matching bag and chopsticks! :) The problem is that it’s a bit too pretty to use. And I’m not sure if it’s microwaveable so I might only really use it on special occasions. :-|

I got a new umbrella, too. And it’s purple, and it’s very pretty as well. So now my problem (this is actually always my problem) is where to put all these things. I don’t have the biggest room and in the world, and I’m not the neatest person in the world either. So, I don’t know, I hope I’ll think of a way for everything to work out. In the meantime, I am basking in the happiness of having pretty pretty stuff. :D Whee!

That’s Weird

My mom just asked me to go into their room to watch Smallville with her. I have actually noticed that my mom’s religiously been watching Smallville, down to the reruns that Studio 23 plays whenever the season’s ended. And apparently today was the first episode of the new season, so she asked me to come and watch. What’s weird is that I never thought she’d actually like the show.

It’s partly due to my influence. I religiously watched the first two seasons of Smallville, too. And I guess she figured it was easier to watch the show too since it didn’t overlap with any other show that she watches. But after the first two seasons, I went to college and didn’t have too much time for TV. I had to pick just one show to watch, and I chose Buffy. I figured I could always borrow my friend’s Smallville DVDs (Remember those days when piracy wasn’t all that big?) so I stopped watching it.

I didn’t know my mom would keep on watching Smallville, even when she’s the only one in the house who still watches it. And now I’m amazed that she’s the one who told me about Lana Lang and Lex Luthor getting married and Chloe being Jimmy Olsen’s girlfriend.

Anyway, I just wanted to share that piece of information with you. I’m glad I don’t have the kind of mom who goes for them local telenovelas. I’m not saying that’s bad, I myself am a fan of Asian Dramas (as you probably have noticed, given the rabid fangirling for the cute Japanese boys), but unfortunately, the local dramas aren’t to my liking (I’m only talking about telenovelas, by the way. The local movies are fine with me. :) ). They’re just too, er, repetitive. I still have yet to see a fresh idea in the telenovela scene in the Philippines. No offense to the writers. I know they’re probably very creative and are just compromising their art to cater to the audience. But I don’t want to get into that. That’s not a very happy topic.

The point being, I think I’m lucky I don’t normally fight with my parents on what to watch on TV. Other than the news, I pretty much like what they’re watching– CSI, Smallville, Mythbusters, and don’t even get me started on our whole Star Trek: Voyager phase. Long story short: We watched that series as a family. Pretty groovy, huh?

(And yes, I meant that last statement to be corny. You’ll probably get it better if you’re a Voyager fan. It was Tom Paris who said it one of the episodes. I think.)
